Pre-OSSD program

Pre-Ontario Secondary School Diploma Program

Preparing up-and-coming students for pursuit of the OSSD

Our Pre-Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) program is the first step for many students who have Canadian education in their sights, but would benefit from preparation and more experience with international education in English.

Foundational instruction with the same
Toronto Imperial School quality

Toronto Imperial School’s Pre-OSSD course offerings are specifically designed to equip students for success at the next stage of their educational journey and to build both confidence and leadership skills. This program mirrors our other courses as closely as possible, utilizing the same instructional method and academic platform, to ensure familiarity and a seamless transition to the full OSSD program afterward.

Advantages of Pre-OSSD program

These courses offer a solid foundation, not only academically but also in terms of language development, study habits, and cultural adaptation. These benefits collectively support long-term success in the Ontario education system and beyond. This section details why we believe this is the right pathway for many of our prospective students.

Academic readiness

Pre-OSSD courses prepare students for the curriculum and academic expectations of the Ontario secondary school system. These courses cover foundational basics in various subjects, ensuring students have the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in high school.

Enhanced study skills

Pre-OSSD courses teach important study habits, time management, and organizational skills that are essential for high school and beyond. These courses foster a strong work ethic and independent learning, which sets students up for success in their academic careers.

Smooth transition to OSSD

For students new to Ontario’s education system, especially international students, pre-OSSD courses help them adjust to the structure, grading system, and academic standards. It reduces the culture shock of entering a new system, making the transition smoother and less stressful.

Better performance in OSSD courses

With the foundational knowledge gained from pre-OSSD courses, students often perform better in their OSSD courses. They enter high school with a strong grasp of key subjects, enabling them to focus on deepening their knowledge rather than catching up.

Improved English language proficiency

Many pre-OSSD courses focus on developing students’ English language skills, which is critical for success in an English-speaking academic environment. Improved language proficiency helps students understand course material better, engage in classroom discussions, and write assignments effectively.

Building confidence

Pre-OSSD courses help students build confidence by providing a supportive environment to adapt to new academic challenges. Students learn how to navigate classroom dynamics, interact with teachers, and participate in discussions, making them more comfortable when they enter the full OSSD program.
